A creature with the head and torso of a beautiful young woman and the tail of a fish, the myth of the mermaid has captivated mankind for centuries. She is usually said to be seen on a rock, combing her long, beautiful hair. According to myth, they lure sailors by singing and with lovely music, luring them overboard. From this story, the fear amongst the sailor grew and they thought that seeing a mermaid would cause bad luck: it could predict death by drowning.
